Now. Can I bitch? I'm in Printer Hell.
My Brother MFC-5200C decided quite a few weeks ago to stop printing magenta. I replaced the cartridge twice, ran the cleaning procedure mega times, got in touch with Brother online support twice and spoke with them on the phone twice. I took the printer to work to have one of the printer guys look at it. Ultimately, I had to take it to the local authorized Brother repair depot, which I did yesterday. Actually I bribed Simon to drop it off for me since he wasn't working yesterday afternoon. I was a patient customer today and didn't call to see if they had a chance to look at it but I'll call tomorrow. I don't even care how much it costs to repair (sorta) because this printer/scanner/fax/copier was a gift from Steve, who picked it out of his company's prize catalog for his 20th anniversary gift. (Yep, he's a nice guy like that. I tried to refuse it, too big of a gift, he should get something for himself - but he insisted and boy am I glad he did. I love this machine and still thank him frequently for it!)
Shame on me for not taking care of this sooner. Denial. It ain't pretty.
Now I need it to print price tags and business cards and scan new cards (though I haven't been able to get my laptop to be able to scan, just print, but I can still use my old computer for scanning).
So tonight, I thought I'd be Ms Smarty Pants and hook up my old HP 640C, literally a $40 printer I bought at work a few years ago. When I got the Brother, I gave the printer to Lizz, though she never hooked it up. I've downloaded drivers and fiddled and faddled and cannot get the damn thing to print. Wouldn't surprise me if the ink cartridges have dried up but it was worth a shot.
I'm so frustrated I almost hopped in the car, drove to Staples and bought another printer to use as a back-up printer but cooler heads prevailed, thank goodness. First, I'll see when my Brother will be fixed. Secondly, shhhhh, but I can print a bunch of price tags on my printer at work tomorrow morning. Not my usual practice but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Everything has been going so swimmingly with loading up and using the new laptop, that I guess I was due for some frustration. Plug and play, is that asking too much??
Otherwise, I'm in good shape, as I said. I've been making cards like crazy. I upgraded the shipping on my Memory Box order so that will arrive Thursday. I placed the order on 9/22 and she told me it would ship in 5 business days. Turned out it was 7, which I guess isn't too bad, except in the meantime, I decided I must have the paper now. I'm taking Thurs and Fri off to work on cards exclusively so that's why I arranged for it to arrive Thursday. I have lots of card parts sitting around, waiting for assembly.
I ordered easels and paper bags for the November craft show I'm doing at St. John of Rochester School. Details to follow closer to the date.
I have to go make some art now so I won't feel like this was a wasted night. I've been wanting to write an entry for a while now but felt like I've had nothing to say. As if that's stopped me before. I started an entry at work today until Word crashed and ate it. Figured that was the karmic boomerang striking me for trying to squeak out a couple of paragraphs on company time. I had a rant going about Sharon Stone and Kate Moss. I'll share that with you another time. Paper calls me.
My bed calls me too. I haven't been sleeping as well as I'd like lately, too much on my mind, I guess. So last night? Two Trazodone and in bed by 9:00. I now see the downside to sleeping deeply is it takes me longer to wake up in the morning. I'm the type that usually wakes up immediately and hits the ground running. Yeah, one of those. So this morning it took me a good 5 minutes to become fully alert (yeah, all of 5 minutes), but I don't remember any of my stupid dreams which is worth the price of admission right there. I dream wacky stuff all the time and remember it the next morning which is usually quite annoying. Before I started the Trazodone at night, these wacky dreams would stick with me all day, which made me grumpy. Grumpier. I just wasn't sleeping deeply enough to feel rested either. That was sucky. Better living through chemicals, doesn't bother me a bit. Take that, Tom Cruise, you wack-job.
Oh yeah. Paper calls me.

Good luck with your show! And Tom Cruise is definitely a wack job -- a cute wack job, but a wack job nonetheless. ;-)
I have two words for Tom Cruise, but they're a little stronger than "wack job." ;-) Good luck with the craft shows. I sure do wish I could go...
Sounds like you are in full swing with craft-show mania ... which, of course, is when printers will break down, shipments will be delayed, etc. Somehow we survive, though ... with a little help from chemistry, which is something I haven't tapped yet, but reading your entry made me say, 'Where can I get some of that Trazodone??'
... the latest thing keeping me/us up at night now is a skunk that seems to enjoy coming around the neighborhood around 1 or 2 and spraying. Sometimes the smell is so strong, even with the windows closed, that it will literally wake you up. The weather's really nice at night now, too, and the other night we made the mistake of falling asleep with the windows open, and we both woke up at 1:30 holding our noses. Another night, when this all first started a few weeks ago, I woke up in the middle of the night to find John putting on after shave (!) ... he figured if he slathered it on and came back to bed, it would mask the smell. Too funny. Anyway ... got any suggestions for how we can get rid of Mr. Pepe le Peeewwww?? Maybe I should put some Trazodone-laced treats out.
I hope you get your Brother back very soon, with a very tiny repair bill.
Good luck with the craft sale this weekend! I'm sure you'll do great.
Is there any woman in America that still likes Tom Cruise...besides Katie Holmes!?! The guy is weird...just plain weird. I feel sorry for his kids being raised by him and with all the Scientology crap.
