My Mama

My sweet mama showed up at my office this afternoon, bearing this lovely Gerbera Daisy, saying it was her Random Act of Kindness for the day. I had her put it in front of the poster of Gerbera daisies - clever, eh?

I know this is the kind of thing my mom likes to do but I think Jen was surprised and pleased by it all. Especially because her mom has Alzheimer's and has been in a nursing home for 10 years and isn't doing well right now. Thinking about that made me happy for me and sad for her.

After Mom left, I joked to my office mates that when I saw her with the plant in hand, I should have said, "Oh Christ, something else to water!" Mom would have laughed but I wanted to at least appear to be a good daughter. Fake it until you make it, right?

Thanks, Mom - you're the best! I love you.

Jen and I decided to go to MJ's craft show today on our lunch hour. Jen had wanted to go but suddenly realized that was the only time she had available to go so off we went. Just like that. We both commented about our spontaneity. Not one of my stronger traits, you know. I joke that I like to plan to be spontaneous.

We walked in and I saw a woman oohing and ahhing over my cards - and she had three in her hand to buy. Yes! I saw a couple of other spots where cards were missing -which naturally made me stress over how I could find time to make more immediately.

Jen bought a few things, I introduced her to MJ, we met another artist who was working there. It was fun.

My friend Maria wrote about her her first craft show. I read it while eating my lunch today and it prompted me to put my November craft show to-do list on paper (or rather Palm Pilot) and get it out of my head. I fell asleep last night trying to think of the best way to display my suncatchers. I spoke with the organizer yesterday - I'll have a 8' x 8' space and I can sell non-handcrafted items too. MJ was nice enough to allow me to sell some of my wholesale purchased product at her show this weekend, so I'll be able to sell what I have left at the November show. This is all good because other than my website, I no longer have an outlet for it since I left that store in Fairport earlier this year and would like to move that inventory.

I was also excited this afternoon to receive an order online for some of this product - so I can ship it tomorrow. Go me.

I'm so motivated and jazzed - can't wait to 1) work my two 4-hour shifts at MJ's this weekend and 2) get crafty.

I'm baking a pumpkin roll tonight to take to work tomorrow as part of my turn to bring breakfast. I'll stop and get fresh bagels on the way to work. Gosh, I love Fridays. Oh! And I'm only working half a day so I can work at the craft show in the afternoon. I'll be done at 4:00 so I'll get home earlier than if I'd worked. Yeah, life is good.

I really did not remember the gerbera daisy poster when I chose the plant, guess I'm psychic! So listen, just water the plant until it quits blooming and then toss it.

Hooray! Sounds like you're doing good business at MJ's!! Happy, happy, happy for you.

Thanks for the shout-out. I'm now getting ready for my second show tomorrow, and the prep is way, way, way more civilized than the last one. I can actually see the surface of the dining room table this time, have only been up til 2 a.m. one night this week, and don't expect to have to pull an all-nighter tonight. So, life is good here too. There was so much one-time stuff the first time -- yikes! I'm breathing much easier this week. :-)

... how on earth do you have time to bake in the midst of it all, though? You're absolutely amazing. I have a plain pumpkin on the kitchen counter, and you have pumpkin roll. I'm jealous.
