Thursday
I received an email just before lunch that the open house at the new store I'm interested in has been postponed until possibly Friday or Saturday. I was disappointed but glad to be able to use that time to keep making inventory for the November show. (I'll post details for the show shortly.)
I can't imagine anyone is surprised by this: I sorted my buttons this morning! Yep, not 12 hours after I said I would save that project for a rainy day, I found myself compulsively
separating colors. Once that stuff is in my head, there's no trying to delay the gratification. I justify it by saying it will help me in the long run, find what I need faster, thereby being more efficient. Even before Annie suggested it (thanks!), I got out my small canning jars to use. I have tons. But these must be the small quilted jelly jars - to make the buttons all the more sparkly!I started assembling the origami hearts into cards, saving the gluing of the heart and button or bead until last, doing that part all at once.
Meantime I stamped out a bunch of gold and orange pieces to use for suncatchers - and these small shapes will be pins. I'll layer them and sparkle them up some - should be cute! I find that even though I mostly sit on my ass for my day job, by the time I get to my studio at night, I'm often not up for standing at my craft table getting creative. I'm more in the mood for mindless production work while watching that day's That's Clever and Crafters Coast to Coast. Guess it's not a physical tiredness so much, more of a mental factor. And due to the fact that I get up at 4:30 (I'm a morning person, what can I tell you??), by 9:00, I'm winding down pretty quickly. (Maria - how DO you pull all nighters!? Even without the day job, I can't imagine myself doing that.)

Dang -- I can't believe I missed Heather on That's Clever Friday!! Reading your post reminded me ... and I kept telling myself all morning Friday that I had to watch it, and that if I missed it at noon, I could catch it at 5 because it airs here twice a day ... well, I missed them both in the midst of sitting with a neighbor to design two pairs of earrings, getting the chimney and dryer vents cleaned, and talking to John about his latest doctor's appt. ... all of which was going on concurrently Friday afternoon. Oh well ... I hope they run it again. How was it?
As for how I pull all-nighters ... well, for starters, if I think I'm going to be up late, I'll drink a cup of General Foods International Coffee around 8 or 9 ... that and the excitement I have for the work (... plus the fear of being embarrassed in public at a craft show ... ) keep me going til at least midnight. The toughest hours are around 2 or 3 ... the excitement and caffeine have worn off, and my eyes are totally bleary. That's when I'll get up and do something else that's more physical, or I'll have a bowl of cereal or make some herbal tea. Once I hit 4 a.m. or so, I'm home free ... I know I only have just a little bit longer to finish things up before it'll be time to shower and get ready to go ... a shower and my morning cup of coffee usually revive me, plus the adrenaline of going and having to get everything set up. I usually start to peter out in the early afternoon, though, and by the time it's time to go home, I'm bone tired ... so I get home and take a good nap and promise myself I'll NEVER EVER do that to myself again ... then two weeks later, I do it all over.
