11 Stitches

Even as the doctor was stitching up Simon's face, I considered whipping out my camera phone for a couple of quick shots for this entry. I refrained.
Simon and a friend were doing laps in gym and decided to race each other. The friend shoved Simon, who tripped over his own feet and slammed face first into a cement wall. (The friend feels really bad. Simon feels bad that his friend feels bad.)
That's the short version. Simon can give you the highly dramatized 40 minute version if you'd like.
He has 11 stitches in his eyebrow and a splint on his wrist - he chipped a bone.
He's not going to school or work today. He powers through any kind of illness or malady pretty quickly. Plus he has a very pressing social life these days, so he won't be down for long, guaranteed.
The cool thing for me is that I'd never seen anyone stitched up before so it was neat I got to watch. I even skootched in for a better angle at one point. It was fascinating. My own personal CSI show!
The other thing that made me happy is Simon's dad and his wife showed up for a while. It surprised me and delighted Simon.
That was my afternoon, 4-1/2 hours spent in the emergency room. So ... what have you been up to?

Ouch. And eww. Hope Simon feels better soon!
Poor Simon! BTW, when SonnyeBoy had to get stitches, I watched, too! Joe, on the other hand, almost fainted and had to look away. hee!
Be glad he wasn't a little kid kicking and screaming. I used to hate having to help restrain them.
For some reason, watching someone get stitched on tv is gross but watching your own child get stitched is fascinating. When Paul extremely lacerated his arm, he got 61 stitches: 30 under the skin and 31 on the surface. It was really amazing how painstakingly the process goes (get it? "pain - staking" har har).
OMG, Stefani! How horrible for you both! I went through a similar situation with K about 10 years ago. 17 stitches in the back of his head and he couldn't wait to go back to school to show everyone. Who'd of thought that doctors would be such good seamstresses!
Yikes! Poor Simon! I hope he heals quickly!
We heard the 40 minute version a couple of times, it was very graphic. I did appreciate that he came by on the way home to get Gramma hugs and let us know he is okay. Gotta love that boy, dramatics and all. Wonder where he gets that? I text messaged him (yes me, I did that!)to check on him. Said he is a little better with bad headaches, I told him to sleep a lot.
