The Great American Car Sit-Down

.First, here's a follow up to yesterday's entry about Kaffe Fassett. I emailed Brandon Mably, an artist in his own right, because he manages Kaffe's studio, to let him know I blogged about Kaffe. I quite often do that, if I blog about someone, because I think they'd want to know (in case they don't check theirs stats) - and I always offer to take it down if they want me to. No one ever has. Brandon's work can be seen here.

This is about the 3rd time Reggi has done this and it totally cracks me up.

Saturday morning I grabbed my car keys so I could move my car to get the lawn mower out. Reggi ran out the door ahead of me and stood by my car, tail wagging. Front door, back door, front door. I said, "Fine, you can get in but we're not going very far. I'm just moving the car." After I moved the car 15 feet, I turned off the car and got out. She didn't. She stayed there well beyond the 3 hour mark.

This dog loves to go for rides in the car. And I think she thought we were taking her for a walk this morning because we both got up and got dressed like we had someplace to go. We do frequently walk her first thing Saturday and/or Sunday morning so it wasn't unreasonable for her to think that. But today Steve went to work and I'm working in my studio.

I could have lifted her out but I decided to take her for a ride because it was such a beautiful day. So I took her to the Petsmart with me. I was looking for a canvas dog house like thing I'd seen online. But I didn't find anything to buy. (There were a lot of other dogs there this morning. Must be a big Saturday morning thing to do!)

Then we stopped at Bruester's and I had a free ice cream cone because my punch card was filled up. They offer Doggie Dishes, which is a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a dog biscuit stuck in it. Reggi is overweight so honestly, we almost never give her snacks (anymore). I sat on a picnic bench eating my ice cream cone while Reggi lapped up her ice cream. I swear, she turned to me at one point with the expression, "You DO know I have this right??"

Does Reggi have me well-trained or what??

The other time Reggi did this was when Steve and I returned from a long weekend away. While we were getting our luggage out of the car, Reggi jumped in and wouldn't leave. After an hour or so, we finally coaxed her out.

Another time, I think I was cleaning out my car in the driveway and she jumped in and got comfy. I just left her there with the door open for as long as she wanted.

I love the idea of the doggie dish! After all, dogs are people, too! :)
