Then and Now
.
I don't want to even post his name here (hi Googlers!) but I think you know who this is. I found this new photo fascinating in how unrecognizable he is except for the giveaway swastika he carved in his forehead decades ago.
I was very caught up in this case when it happened, back in 1969-ish. I read the book, Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi. For people around my age, this stuff is very much a part of our pop culture.
Edited to add: There's a lengthy entry about him over on Wikipedia, more than even I want to read, but here's something I never thought about: He has 3 children, all with his last name, two with his same first name. Googling brought me to this site, which confused me even more. Charlie would never, ever give a straight answer. I did read that the son who is a junior, committed suicide. Poor thing didn't have a chance. There are a couple of very interesting videos with some of his other children.

I would have never guess that was him if it weren't for that tattoo.
Except that's not a tattoo - he carved that into his own head - as did several of his followers.
My co-workers and I were marvelling this morning over how unrecognizable he is. Helter Skelter was a fascinating book.
He is still one scary man, and I hope to goodness he NEVER gets out.
