Exhibits A & B
I love this variegated thread - I have it in several colors. This is how I designed the pattern the first time, the one I posted yesterday. (I know, I need to clean my scanner.)
Last night I tried moving the inner circle, the bottom of the spikes, in just a bit - only 1/4 of an inch. I also stitched a little extra somethin' between the spikes. I like it! The stitchier the better!Over time my pieces have evolved into having much more stitching, which I love. Which brings me to this. I'd been noticing I had some Sticky Notes I wasn't thrilled with. I wasn't even neutral, I just didn't like them - I was ashamed to put them out for sale. I used to try to be frugal and stitch on scraps. But then to find paper to go with them proved more and more difficult so some of the pieces ended up looking like I was making do. No wonder they were the ones that were left.
Sitting in my booth in an October show I decided that those have to go. I'll either rework them in some way or throw out the stitched part and reuse the rest. From this moment forth, I shall sell no piece that isn't stunning. I pulled 50 - yes 50, Sticky Notes from inventory.
And my sales at the next show were up 86% over last year's same show. Hmmmm.
Granted there are always other factors at play - general economy, time of year, the specifics of that show - but I can't ignore the fact that all of my Sticky Notes look so much better. As I assemble this next batch, I look at my storage boxes full of them and I can truly say there isn't one I'm unhappy with.
I'm kind of embarrassed to even tell this story, embarrassed that I would ever consider selling something I didn't love. But there you have it. Lesson learned.

I think you should consider selling the discard sticky notes at a bargain basement rate, not toss them. Just because YOU don't love them doesn't mean someone else won't...
I know what you mean. I occasionally look at my display board and cringe as I can't believe that I considered something display-worthy. Keep at least one for your archives to show how far you've come. Otherwise, I'd consider pulling the sticky notes out and reusing them with new covers. I'm not sure that I'd want inferior art of mine out on the market...though I'm sure they are not as bad as you are implying!
I know exactly what you are talking about. I have a difficult time just tossing the cards I no longer like and are not selling anyway, but I just tossed a bunch of 5-year-old Holiday cards. I am no longer happy with them, and they no longer reflect my level of workmanship. Not even worth saving for parts.
I like the first suggestion of a Bargain Bin, but I have failed in that, too. How do you explain why things are on sale? YOU don't like them? The designs are old? I eventually gave it up and gave most of them away.
If it is on display in your booth, it reflects you, and you have to be proud of ALL your stuff. Although, I would like to see what you consider no longer good, cuz I am pretty sure SOMEone would like it!
