Random and Not-So-Random Acts of Kindness

The American Heart Walk bake sale seemed to be a success and I'm sure we'll have it again tomorrow since there was food left. I ate too much though - bad Stefani.

I'm baking another loaf of Basil Garlic Bread for Lizz overnight. I'm using the usual vegan bread recipe with garlic & basil added. The deformed loaf from yesterday - looked weird in both shape and texture but it was delicious!

If I was any happier, I think I'd implode.

It must be the birthday thing. And the Bruce thing, of course.

The birthday festivities started today. My morning started with an email birthday greeting from Jim. Have you read about his latest moonboot footwear?

At work Sherry (who works in our Buffalo office) UPSd me a mondo bag of licorice and a birthday card! She cracks me up!

Steve sent me a new fish (and vase & plant) for my birthday! The thing is, this fish is identical to Cobalt, who died a few weeks ago. He didn't even tell the florist what color fish to send or anything. It's a little freaky, actually, how much he looks like Cobalt.

So. The new fish needs a name. I was thinking of using a synonym for cobalt, something pertaining to blue but I haven't had time to look into it yet. Since you guys were so good at thinking of business names for me (I'll report back on that another time), how about coming up with some nice blue fish names - or even something non-blue but clever? Send 'em in!

Steve had the fish sent to me today instead of tomorrow on my birthday because he couldn't remember if I was taking the day off. Silly boy - he's the one taking tomorrow off. Why would I take the day off and miss the birthday fun at work, I ask you?? We're both taking Wednesday off to recover from our concert encounter of the Bruce kind. I'm also looking forward to using that as a catch-up day since this past weekend was filled with other things.

And the birthday cards have started arriving. I knew it didn't matter that I started my birthday card whoring kinda late - because my friends are so nice, they were way ahead of the game. I sat here opening them with a big smile on my face. I'll share them with you later. (Thanks Stephanie, Sharon, Aunt Carrol & Uncle John and Mom & Dad!)

At the last minute today, Steve and his friend Paul decided to join a sports trivia contest at a local bar. I declined to join them tonight because I want to be well rested for tomorrow and tomorrow night. Plus I had things I wanted to catch up on. But I'll go with them the next 5 Monday nights probably. These two guys are amazing - they always kick ass in these things. Kinda explains why Steve can't remember something I told him yesterday - because his head is filled with sports trivia. No, of course I'm not bitter, why do you ask? Seriously, I'm glad he's doing this. He's good at it and it gives him a chance to hang out more with Paul.

This is what I wanted to work on tonight. Every picture I took was kinda blurry for some reason but that's okay because I didn't want you to see what I wrote.

The thing about tomorrow that's even more important than my birthday is that it was 10 years ago that Steve and I got together. I've probably already bored you with the story of how we went to junior and senior high school together. Our parents live in the same neighborhood, we rode the same bus, we were acquaintances. Ten years ago a mutual friend told me I should meet her boss and when she told me his name, it was Steve. I couldn't imagine what we would talk about beyond a few memories. But this friend and I share a birthday so she talked Steve into coming out with us to celebrate, with a group of us. Knowing Steve as I do now, I can't imagine he did it. He even sang kaoroke! The rest, as they say, is history.

So this 10 year anniversary is very meaningful to me. I wanted to commemorate it in some way but a gift or card just didn't seem right. (In fact, I never give Steve cards. I wonder if he thinks that's weird. He just doesn't appreciate them. I mean, he likes that I love making them, but that's it. Just not on his radar screen, I guess.) So I stole the above idea from someone on the Simple Living Forums. The top sign says, "The Top Ten Reasons I've Loved You for Ten Years" - and the hearts list ten reasons I love him. The bottom sign is some mushy stuff, blah, blah, blah. I put in on the back of the bedroom door. I'll probably be asleep when he comes home tonight - and if he sleeps in tomorrow, he probably won't see it until I'm at work. Watch, tomorrow will be one day he doesn't close the bedroom door!

24 hours from this moment, I'll be groovin with Bruce. I had The Rising cranked while I was doing the dishes tonight. I'm liking that CD more and more! Stay tune for The Review.
