And another thing . . .

Gratitudes:

Cyber friends - all have made my life richer.

A wise choice at lunch today - the Chicken Fajita Salad, with low fat Ranch dressing on the side.

Chocolate birthday cake! Then I had to have a second 1/3 size piece to keep the milk/cake ration in proportion. Hey, at least I didn't have cake on top of a really fat-laden lunch! Yes, I am the Queen of Rationalization, thank you.

Random and Not-So-Random Acts of Kindness

Mom and Dad's generosity today - springing for lunch for all 9 of us. Plus cake and flowers!

Gretchen gave me a butterfly feeder and butterfly nectar to go with it. It will be a couple of months before I can put it outside but I'll be sure to show you lots of pictures of the hordes of butterflies I'm going to attract. It's really a great gift.

Just in case you don't read to the end of this entry, I must put this link up front. My friend Ann opened her online journal today! Please go check out The View from Here - you won't regret it. Ann is a fairly new reader of my journal. A few weeks ago she emailed me with the perfect artist's quote that I'm going to stencil or stamp on my studio wall this summer when I paint this room. We found we have so much in common (namely crafts and the gift of gab!) so we've been corresponding ever since. "Meeting" Ann has been an example of perfect synchronicity. After I saw some of her photographs and her crafts and realized how much she likes to write, I started bugging her to start her own online journal. She has been encouraging me in my new projects, sending me very helpful links and offering excellent advice. This friendship was meant to be. Go check out this talented woman I call my friend.

I forgot to tell you that Saturday morning I walked Reggi for the first time in forever. This weekend is predicted to be quite warm, for us this time of year - in the 60s for a number of days! I wanted to get an early jump on it so we went for a walk around 6:30 am - near our house. We have Invisible Fence and Reggi gets outside a lot of course, but walking is one of her favorite things to do. Mine too. I simply whispered to her, "Do you want to go for a walk?" and she jumped up and ran to the back door. She was one happy dog indeed.

We met 4 dogs on our route and she was quite well behaved. She tends to be a little shy, which is why we actually like her to meet other dogs. Allie was sort of black lab-ish and came out to the mailbox with her owner to get the newspaper. He tried to call Allie back but she and Reggi wanted to check each other out. He said, "Go ahead and sniff each other's butts." I swear it was all I could do not to blurt out, "You're talking to the dogs, right?"

Then I went to my 8:00 eye doctor's appointment. My prescription has not changed very much so I'm keeping my glasses as they are and because I'm no longer wearing contacts, I bought myself a pair of prescription sunglasses. They'll be ready in a few days. They are non-bifocal which saved me some money I'm sure. I'll only wear them for driving, maybe gardening or general distance stuff. I've already checked - I can read the speedometer just fine. I can't wait.

Today Steve and I walked Reggi along the canal, the village-to-park route we like. We saw an otter! Sure wish I'd taken my camera. We also heard tons of Canada Geese, a woodpecker and saw lots of other birds. It was early enough that there weren't many people out, but we knew by the afternoon, it would be bumper to bumper people. We three enjoyed our walk immensely. It's a nice time for Steve and I to enjoy some quality time together.

We met my family at Chili's for lunch to celebrate my birthday and Gretchen's birthday, which is April 2. She takes particular delight in these 3 weeks between our birthdays when she can say I'm four years older than she is. Whatever. She is so immature! Little sisters are like that, yeah they are.

Then we went to Mom and Dad's for birthday cake. Mom gave Gretchen and me the roses and African violets to take home. The cake was chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. And yes, we got milk.

Guess who bought herself a digital camera? Yep. Sis-boom-bah! She said she bought it as a defensive measure. When she showed up with her camera today, I started whistling the theme from Deliverance - dueling digitals. No family event is safe now, with each of us trying to catch each other in embarrassing moments. Let the games begin!

You know it's nice weather when Simon and DJ are actually outside playing basketball. They are right outside my studio window and my window is open. I'm so glad they are getting actual exercise, I'm not even minding their off-key renditions of "Basketball Jones! I got a Basketball Jones!" Let's put it this way. Neither one of them need audition for American Idol any time soon.

I have the nicest cyber-friends. Von very kindly told me how to fix these text boxes so you don't have to scroll right and left to read them. I knew I had to scroll to the right a tiny bit when I opened the site to get everything centered, then I could just read up and down. I was just sick of fiddling with it, I guess and decided to live with it. I'm so happy now! Thanks again, Von.

Doug told me he couldn't get into my guestbook and suggested another one, which I now have in place. So go be the first person to sign the new guest book! Thanks for the suggestion, Doug.

A few days ago I asked if anyone knew of where I could find a site-specific search engine. Willa very kindly sent me links to two! I have not gotten around to looking at them yet, but soon. I swear.

One last bit of journal business. The reason I decided to change the notify list to non-interactive is two fold. I had another person ask to be unsubscribed because of the volume of mail. It's not a lot but at times it can be more than some people want to read. And secondly, I've decided I'm one of them. As I continue to devote more time to selling cards and crafts and researching starting a professional organizing business, I am reorganizing (whee!) my time. I've already unsubscribed from a few journals ( of people I'm not close with only!) and this is just one more way I can streamline my time on the computer. As I said in the last notify message, I'm still an emailing fool, so please continue to email me. I love hearing from people! Your reply message will just go to me now, not the whole list.

Thanks very much, to all my readers and cyber friends. You make my life more fun, interesting and fulfilling.
