Today I encountered the worst winter driving weather of the season. And I've been out in it a bit today. Simon had his Global mid-term this morning so I went into work a bit late so I could drive him there. They have the buses running, doing a "grand circuit" which means 5 buses for the whole district. Since we live out a ways Simon doesn't get home from school for 50 minutes and the school is about 10 minutes away from us - on a good day. So who knows how long the grand circuit thing would take. Then he called me when he was done and I left work to pick him and Gershum up and brought them home. Did a nice little spin in one place, nothing fast or dangerous, just a little out of control with no cars around, thank goodness.

Tonight Simon is taking his mandatory 5 hour pre-licensing class at the community center so I drove home from work, took him to the community center and took Gershum home. I'll go pick him and Nick up at 9:30 but at least I can drive Steve's 4-wheel drive vehicle. There's a very steep hill near our house that I wasn't sure I would make it up in my Saturn this afternoon but I did. As long as I can keep moving I'm okay. I was afraid I'd slow to a stop and then I'd really be in trouble. Then I almost got stuck in our driveway but I rocked the car out each time.

Considering we live in upstate New York, we really don't have that many snowy driving days each winter. I think the conditions were just right today. It's a little bit warmer, a term I use loosely - high 20s today.

Per Ann Marie's request - here is the recipe Gretchen gave me for these most delicious cookies.

Chewy Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients:

1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
2 eggs
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
2 tablespoons water
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups chopped semisweet chocolate

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

In a large bowl, cream together the butter, peanut butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the corn syrup, water, and vanilla.

Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt; stir into the peanut butter mixture. Fold in chocolate chunks.

Drop by 1/4 cupful 3 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets.

Bake for 12 to 14 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are golden.

Allow cookies to cool for 1 minute on the cookie sheet before removing to wire racks to cool completely.

Servings: 24

I found out my new card order (and I bet my new notify list person) found me through Robyn who gave me a nice mention. I then checked and my stats doubled for both Pine Tree Designs and this site yesterday. Yay for me and my high flying ego!

Dinner: Last night's beef stew over egg noodles.
