Sunday, March 7, 2004 I didn't accomplish all I wanted to today, but who ever does? I placed an order for some necklaces to sell at Village Gifts. They are handmade by the artist, Robin Gardella who lives in Maine. She's a very nice woman, just finishing up another batch she said - and she'll ship them to me tomorrow. I prepared purchase orders for the other two wholesale places and will fax those in tomorrow. They are quite lengthy so I didn't want to phone them in and neither one has online ordering. One order is for some cards in the Go Girl line that are black & white photos, like the kind you might have in your attic of your relatives. They have funny captions, some are quotes by Erma Bombeck and Ellen DeGeneres, etc. I ordered a bunch of cards and a bunch of magnets because I see that those smaller inexpensive "impulse" items sell well. These are the cards I told you that I don't feel would compete with my handmade cards because they are such a different style. The other place I'm ordering from is Jacob's Musical Chimes. They sell all sorts of wind chime related things. In particular I'm buying "Car Charms" which are little 3" wind chimes you hang from your rear view mirror or anywhere really. They hang from a little metal doodad, like a dragonfly, sun, heart, that sort of thing. So that's what I'm starting out with. I'm very eager to get this stuff in the store to see if/what sells so I can be fully stocked for Canal Days in June. I've heard the other vendors talk about it enough that I now understand there's no way I can predict what will sell. So I've picked stuff I like, that cheapskate ol' me would actually pay money for - and we'll see what happens. Please send good vibes my way.
Otherwise, I spent today making cards for a custom order. My friend Gayle in CO mailed me a check and said to send her as many cards as that would cover. They are for a gift for someone. Wanna see? Actually you've seen most of these in one variation or another already.
Oh! These are not for Gayle's order but rather something I've been playing around with. These are punched flowers, slit and overlapped by one petal and glued, so they are cupped. I glued a black bead in the center. My original plan was - and still is - to make a wreath of these, suitable for framing. But I started playing around with these, trying to figure out how to best glue them to paper - at what angles, etc. I might be able to salvage these to be able to use in some way. They are obviously not cards meant to be mailed in an envelope. I'm not quite there yet, but I think they have great potential. (Marcia - I'm thinking of using this type of flower on the pins you asked for. I'd have the person's name with a few flowers in the corner. That way they can all be similar but not exactly the same due to different colors. What do you think? Just an idea. I'll email you about these this week.)
Dinner: Spaghetti Alfredo with Broccoli. I've told you how my boy loves Alfredo sauce these days. This was Classico in a jar, but I also bought those packages of dry mix at the store yesterday so we'll see how those taste. I know the packaged ones are half the fat grams anyway. I had a Slender Pie for dessert. Reading: From Chunk to Hunk by Fred Anderson Listening to in the car: A Jackson Browne tape made for me by a friend years ago. It's a combination of "The Pretender" and "Late for the Sky". I'm #7 on the hold list for a new book on tape (Anne Tyler's "The Amateur Marriage" but there are 7 holdable copies so it probably won't be long. Still, I guess I'll have to stop by the library Monday and pick something off the shelf to tide me over.
