Look what John sent me!!

John is my friend from high school with whom I've reconnected, as I've mentioned before. And he definitely knows the finer things in life.

I could not figure out what this padded envelope was in the mailbox today. It was too small to be my eBay order of 500 A2 envelopes. The only thing I could imagine was that it was the jewelry I ordered from Robin Gardella in Maine but no way she shipped it yesterday (Sunday!) for it to arrive today. And I'm glad I didn't think to look at the postmark (New Hampshire - duh!) because I totally loved the surprise of opening the package and reading the note.

Thank you so much John - you are so kind!

As I told John in my email tonight, I'm not sharing one morsel of these truffles with anyone. I gave Steve a Godiva chocolate one time and he gobbled it down like it was an M & M or something. No! No! No! They must be savored and mooshed around in the mouth for a while. Sheesh!

It's common knowledge around work that I kept the really special chocolates (as people are sometimes prone to give me for my birthday) in my underwear drawer. It's not so much that I thought my skanky underwear was a deterrent but more that it was an unlikely place for anyone to look. Now I have a better place. I could tell you where but then I'd have to kill you. Actually I may still tell people I store the special chocolates in my underwear drawer because it definitely falls under the heading of too much information. And I really do enjoy watching certain people jam their fingers in their ears and start whistling the national anthem to avoid hearing any more about my underwear. Yes, I am easily amused.

Flourless Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip Cookies

Continuing in our All Chocolate, All the Time theme, these are cookies I made for a work birthday tomorrow. The man they are for has "wheat issues" so I always make something he can eat, of course. I was going to try out a new raspberry/chocolate fudge recipe but he hinted strongly that he likes peanut butter. I asked him if I made peanut butter cookies last year and he said yes, with chocolate chips - and he even remembered which website I got the recipe from,  Epicurious.  This is the only recipe like it that I had stored so it must be the one!

FLOURLESS PEANUT BUTTER AND CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

1 cup super chunky peanut butter (I prefer creamy)
1 cup (packed) golden brown sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips (about 6 ounces)

Preheat oven to 350°F. Mix first 5 ingredients in medium bowl. Mix in chocolate chips. Using moistened hands, form a generous 1 tablespoon of dough for each cookie into ball. Arrange on 2 ungreased baking sheets, spacing 2 inches apart.

Bake cookies until puffed, golden on bottom and still soft to touch in center, about 12 minutes. Cool on sheets 5 minutes. Transfer to racks; cool completely.

Makes about 24 cookies.

Happy 59th Birthday, Mickey Dolenz!

Dinner:   Simon and I had Spaghetti Alfredo with Broccoli again! We ate early then went to the mall. Simon bought my birthday present and I bought a new pair of black shoes for work. I'm so not a shoe person.  But I was proud of myself, I passed by the cheapo shoes at PayLess and bought a nicer pair at Easy Spirit. Shoes, I've learned, is one thing where you usually get what you pay for. Yeah, Easy Spirit - I'm officially middle aged.

Listening to in the car: Tonight I mostly listened to Simon be antsy about this job at Target. He wants it so badly! He spoke with someone today and they were to call him back. I told him stuff like this always takes twice as long as you think it should.
