Thursday, March 11, 2004 I love birthdays. I love my birthday. I had a great birthday. But I swear, if I ever see another morsel of food in my life, I shall just barf.
My day started off with a good cry. For a good reason, I mean. Simon gave me this Yankee Candle lamp - the candle is Pansies. The card is what made me cry. It was all nice and sweet and everything. What killed me was, like a flash of lightening, I suddenly, totally believed that he meant all the stuff on the card. He always gives me mushy cards but I thought he just randomly picked anything that looked mom-like but he told me today he read every word and knew that card was meant for me. And I felt his love in my heart. I'm getting all goosebumpy just writing about it. I love that kid.
Steve gave me tickets to Jesus Christ Superstar which comes to the Auditorium Theater in May! I said in an earlier journal entry that I wished he would give me tickets for that show and a few days later I realized I should just tell him that. (He sure as heck wasn't going to read it in my journal. And wishing for it was not going to make it happen.) So in a rare move on my part, I emailed him a link where to buy the tickets and said this is what I want for my birthday. I told him these tickets are a triple win for me. First, he actually paid attention to what I said. Second, I get to see the play and third, I get to spend time with him. I'm very happy.
Work was a lot of fun. I received this bunch of balloons, a Gerbera Daisy plant, an air plant on a parrot magnet, a dragonfly pin, a candle and a set of kitchen towels & potholders all leafy green. Oh, and a promise of lunch, which we'll do next week - gotta space these things out, you know.
Mom brought me these flowers early this morning, surprising the heck out of me! I mean she always sends flowers - but she brought these over herself. The roses are absolutely gorgeous. Jennifer made those brownies (Bonnie, you better stop reading this entry right now, it's going to get worse in a minute!) and this birthday card she made that the whole company signed. The front is covered with embellishments that are All About Stefani - dragonflies, spools of thread, a cat, gardening things, flowers charms - I really love it a lot.
If your mouth doesn't start watering when you see this picture, there's something seriously wrong with you. These are Jennifer's brownies; dark chocolate brownies - with raspberry chocolate chips and homemade raspberry frosting. I told her I didn't want to swallow them, I just wanted to mush them around in my mouth forever. I snagged these 5 to bring home for me and Steve this weekend. I make a lot of brownies every year and I make damn fine brownies but I'll just say it. These were the best brownies I've ever had! Yeah, coming from me, I know.
The owner of the company takes each employee out to lunch for his or her birthday. He told me I could ask someone to come with us so I asked Kathy to go. So it was me, Kathy, our manager and the owner. He asked me where I wanted to go and I chose Champs because I'd never been there. It's one of the new restaurants at Eastview Mall. I had a to-die-for salad - BBQ Chicken Ranch. I ate the entire thing except for a few lettuce ribs - I hate those. Around 3:00 we all gathered in the board room for the chocolate birthday cake Deborah made. Steve took us to PF Chang's for dinner - me, Simon, DJ, Lizz and her boyfriend, Erick. I was so not hungry so I ordered chicken fried rice because it was lighter than a full meal. I shared a lot and brought the rest home. We all had the lettuce wraps for an appetizer and then we ordered the Wall of Chocolate or whatever it's called. It's basically about 1/3 of a chocolate/mousse cake sitting on a plate of raspberry sauce. (Are you sensing a theme here today?) I had a few bites, the others ate some and Steve polished it off. I was actually shocked to see him eat so much of it, good as it was. Even on my best day when I was hungry, I could not have eaten as much chocolate cake as he did. Unfortunately, he's paying the price - it's 7:52 and he's in bed with an upset stomach. Poor baby.
When we came home I found another Gerbera Daisy that DJ had left here for me along with this cool garden stake of three dragonflies that glow in the dark! And a nice card. After I specifically told him no presents. Kids! After I take him home at 9:00, I'm going to bed myself. I'm plum worn out from so much fun and attention. And thanks for the cards I received! I'll be emailing you shortly after I get my second wind. I'm 48 now, you know, and I guess I tire more easily now. ;-)
Dinner: Food. Whatever. All damn day. Oh my. Reading: From Chunk to Hunk by Fred Anderson Listening to in the car: Some radio but mostly I'm frantically pressing buttons to find something I can stand to listen to. I'm on the hold list for 3 audiobooks at the library. Which can only mean they'll all show up at once. Two are abridged versions, just 2 or 4 tapes so I can probably blow through those pretty quickly.
