Saturday, March 13, 2004 Steve and I went out to breakfast, then I worked at Village Gifts all day.
I added these necklaces to my display, using that wooden peg rack I've had forever. These are the fish and turtles that are handmade by Robin Gardella, from Maine. I believe they are made of polymer clay and embellished with wire and beads and other sparkly things. I left her tags on them that have her name on them, and also state that they are handmade, just so people can fully appreciate the work that went into them. I sell them for $12 each. I kept one for myself and wore it at the store. I just love these things - they are so happy and fun looking. I must say that I can tell my cards are getting a lot more attention now that they are stationed on the first floor and in a real card rack. The best is yet to come I think.
I bought these tulips at Wegmans for a little something to brighten up the counter. That's a vase that MJ painted - the yellow sunflowers were a perfect match. Several people had to touch the flowers to see if they were real. March is about the time I, and lots of Rochesterians, including Steve, "hit the wall". We've had enough of winter and are really looking forward to spring. Consistently warmish weather doesn't happen for us until mid to end of April. We're due for another storm next week, 2"-4", I think. Business was slow in the morning but picked up in the afternoon. After I ate my lunch, I ate one of the truffles John sent me - and zing! I had me some energy. I had already dusted everything in site so I decided to wash a few dishes I saw in the sink in the back room. Next thing I knew I was reorganizing the back room. It was fun! Then I sort of straightened up behind the counter, but there wasn't much to that. Still, between that and having more customers in the afternoon, I felt like I'd "earned my keep" a bit.
And the gifts and cards keep pouring in. When we came home from dinner Thursday night, there was a box from Amazon for me. I thought it was a book I'd bought the other day so I set the box on the floor. After I finished writing that night's entry I thought, "Hey! That book was from eBay, not Amazon! What the heck is in this box?"
Look what my friend Ann sent me from my wish list! I emailed her immediately to thank her and teased about not being able to resist a book with a title like that. Then Friday when I checked the mailbox, the necklaces had arrived from Maine but there was another package in the mailbox.
Oh!!! Mrs. Field's Chocolates from my lovely friend Nancy R. You may notice that a couple of the dark chocolate ones are missing. Well, not so much missing, as I already ate them. It was more as a preventative measure so someone else didn't accidentally eat them. I mean, if I decide to share them, that is. You don't think I have food issues, do you??
Steve and I went to Great Northern Pizza for my "just us" birthday dinner. There's a new one in Pittsford that Mom has been raving about. We split a medium Southwest Chicken pizza. The crust has an outstanding taste and the "rim" is nice and thick and soft, but the "body" of the pizza - the crust is too thin for my liking. The toppings were a shade skimpy but that didn't bother me. Steve liked it okay but we've decided he's a "died in the wool traditionalist" when it comes to pizza. He likes meat, meat and more meat on his pizza. Next time maybe we'll just get slices so Steve can try the Country Sweet Chicken pizza and the Bacon Cheeseburger pizza. See what I mean about More Meat? I'm looking forward to trying some of the veggie pizzas and pasta pizzas! Pasta pizza? Talk about my idea of heaven!
Dinner: I'm quite sure I've covered this in depth - see above! Reading: From Chunk to Hunk by Fred Anderson Listening to in the car: Some radio but mostly I'm frantically pressing buttons to find something I can stand to listen to. I'm on the hold list for 3 audiobooks at the library. Which can only mean they'll all show up at once. Two are abridged versions, just 2 or 4 tapes so I can probably blow through those pretty quickly.
