Wednesday, March 17, 2004 I'm going to slap a couple of pictures up here and call it an entry. But first I must tell you that I added my new merchandise to my rack at Village Gifts this afternoon. It all looks so very tres chic! When I opened the Go Girl cards the other day, a few of the sets of cards came with a large piece of cardstock that goes behind the cards so you know what to reorder. It's the same width as the cards but taller, so the word Birthday shows above the card, for instance. Duh - why didn't I think of that? I'd made little signs and attached them to the front of each Plexiglas rack but this was far better. So I made a whole stack of those for all my existing cards - in just a few minutes. I mean, how simple can you get - but it really lifted the professionalism of the whole rack tremendously. I'm quite pleased.
This is the thank you card I made to give/send to people who gave me birthday gifts. It's a morning glory and looks better in person because it's kind of cupped and the leaves are folded and dimensional. I'm fairly happy with it, but I know I can do better.
Every time I think I discover something, my faithful readers write to tell me they knew all about it. So tell me, can I buy dark chocolate Kit Kats in this country? My friend Sherry shipped this to me from our Buffalo office a few weeks ago (and the colorful tiny Post-It Notes too), just because. Do you know how thrilling it was to open this unexpected package and see not only colorful paper but dark chocolate?? Then I remembered she'd spent the previous weekend in Niagara Falls, Canada with her daughter. I saw the French word noir - and immediately emailed her to ask if this was an authentic foreign import. It was! So that's why I ask if I can buy them in this country. This says they are available but I've never seen them. I like this Canadian packaging better, but I'm not really all that picky about that part, as it turns out. We're talking dark chocolate here, dammit.
Speaking of color, I attended a Lunch & Learn training today for our upgraded GroupWise email software. Now we can color code incoming email. I turned to my accounting friends, eyes wide, "We can color code!" Nancy said, "You are going to be impossible to live with now, aren't you??" Why yes, yes I am.
Dinner: Spaghetti with Meat Sauce. We've eaten a lot of spaghetti sauce over the years, Prego being my brand of choice. Only recently, much to Simon and Steve's delight, I've started adding ground turkey to it. I actually used a recipe the first time, which also called for a small amount of chicken broth. I swear, that is the secret ingredient that boots this sauce up an extra notch. Weirdest thing, but delish. Reading: Girl Clown, by the lovely and talented Mary Wise. She wrote this novel based on her days as a circus clown for last November's NaNoWriMo and she was kind enough to send me a copy. When she's published, we'll all say we knew her when. Listening to in the car: The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It by Michael E. Gerber. I'm not sure I'm completely down with this book. It's only two tapes so I'll finish it. The first part I listened to was all statistics about how few small businesses succeed. Well now, thanks for pumping me up. Every time I think he's talking about something that doesn't apply to me, a small nugget leaps out at me. I've definitely learned a few things and it's made me think more deeply about some things. I think this abridged version will be enough - seems like it would be pretty dry reading.
