Saturday, March 27, 2004 So I haven't updated in 5 days I see. I still don't have anything to say but thought I ought to check in to make sure I still remember how to do this. Plus, I know how you worry about me so.
I picked up a check at Village Gifts today, my first for March, but it was among the largest I've had, which surprised me and thrilled me no end. This afternoon I had a blast putting together some spreadsheets to track my inventory. With just my own cards, I kind of kept a mental note as to which were the best sellers, but now that I'm selling wholesale product, I really needed a solid way to track things.
Simon and I opened a checking account for him today at the credit union, complete with Visa debit card. Funny, but even just 6 months ago, I could tell he wasn't ready for this. I'd say he's had a little increase in maturity - wanting a job, wanting a checking account. The new Simon. (I know some of this is the result of that personal money management class he used to crab at me for making him take this semester. And I've yet to say I told you so. I think...) Speaking of jobs, several people have asked for an update on Simon's job search. You'll recall that he applied at Target maybe a month ago now. A couple of weeks went by before he was able to connect with the Human Resources dude. He said the only positions they had open at that time were overnight shifts. He told Simon to check back in May. Simon called today (told you he's motivated, surprises me still) and was told there are openings, but to call back Monday and see what they are. He's once again fixated on wanting a cell phone very badly. So he's worked it out and will get one tomorrow. He can just afford it now. My conservative nature tells me that I would wait until I had a job before getting the phone. He's positive he'll have a job within a month at most. I do feel better about it this time than last but believe me, we have spent all damn day discussing this subject ad nauseam. Tempers only flared once and I'm happy to say neither one of us said anything we regretted. Plenty was swirling around in my mind but I controlled my mouth. Ahhh, the lessons of life. For both of us.
My frames arrived yesterday - I'll post pictures of them when the pieces are all framed and I get permission from the recipient.
Nick (17), Simon (16), Paul (14) Here's one for which I did not ask permission. (Thanks, Dad!) Dad asked if I had any frames for this photograph of the grandsons, so I ordered this one. I obviously took this at an angle to avoid glare. (Is anyone else a little creeped out that their eyes follow you around the room??)
I received the cards today I ordered from Marcy in CA so I'll scan a couple to show you before I take them to the store. She does beautiful work. Plus I intend to work on reorganizing the basement tomorrow so maybe I'll have some before and after or at least progress pictures. I also want to update the PTD website, so we'll see which way the muse takes me tomorrow.
Just as I was getting ready to upload this I noticed I have comments on the last entry - which were not emailed to me. The Haloscan settings look okay, hmmm. Anyway - Ann Marie, I turned Orange Breakfast loaf into garlic bread by toasting slices, buttering them and sprinkling them with garlic sprinkles. Not too bad actually. The orange flavor was pretty mild because I think my orange peel is pretty dang old. Next time I'll make it with lemon peel because I know that's fresh. I'm glad you guys liked that Postcards for Mom site. (And I see Will checks his stats to see where his recent hits were coming from!) I sent Celeste a recipe this past week - and have my cartoon ready to be mailed in April. Plus Dad makes his first appearance in the comments! Go Dad.
Dinner: Subs from Wegmans. Dinner was just me and Simon tonight. Part of Steve's monster project is being implemented this weekend so he's working the Command Center from 11:00 PM tonight until 7:00 AM tomorrow, so he spent the early evening sleeping Reading: Girl Clown, by the lovely and talented Mary Wise. Hey - did you know you can order Girl Clown now?? I'm about halfway through the one Mary sent me but I ordered my copy today. It won't be here for about two weeks so I may read something else in the meantime so I can read it in a real book format. I printed the entire file Mary emailed me and have been reading it in a cumbersome 3-ring binder. Anyway, congratulations Mary, on being published - I'm very proud of you!!
Listening to in the car: Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American
Meal by Eric
Schlosser. People say once you read this book, you'll never want to eat fast
food again. People are right - and I don't even think I'm to the truly
icky part yet.
