Sorry, no pictures of the room yet - it's not done. I hope we can put the second coat of paint on tomorrow night, then paint the woodwork the next night. This stuff always takes longer than you think it will, plus with the late start and then there's that damn unexpected extra wallpaper layer.

Steve and I got up around 7:00 and started working and Lizz joined us around 8:30. Steve had the brilliant idea of ordering breakfast pizza so Lizz picked that up around 9:45 - and it was delish!

We finished getting that wallpaper off, sanded the walls and sponged them down. I noticed my hair and eyelashes were a lovely shade of white. Eyebrows? What eyebrows? They disappeared altogether.

I must interrupt myself to tell you that the electrician came this morning to discuss putting ceiling fan/lights in the Simon and Lizz rooms and track lighting in my studio.

Remember me whining a few days about his brother the plumber not showing up for 2 days, then this guy didn't show up when he was supposed to either? He called me the next day and we set up this morning. He redeemed himself this morning by calling when he was supposed to and then showing up when he was supposed to. We both really like him and I told Steve he is obviously the older brother and hogged all the good genes. He's smart and personable. His brother the plumber, not so much.

We discussed a few scenarios so now we need to go do some shopping around. For my studio, I think I mentioned that I saw these mini pendant lights that I liked but wasn't really sure if they would be appropriate in this little room with a fairly low ceiling. Herman suggested one fixture in the middle of the ceiling that would bounce the light up and off the ceiling and fill the room with light. Yeah, I suppose that would be more functional but it wouldn't be cool!  I want cool! No, really I want functional, dammit. That really would be much better because as it is now I have 3 different task lights. It would be really nice to have one light on a dimmer, so when I'm on the computer I could just have a little bit of light. When I'm working on stuff, I could crank it up.

Oh - the new thing I learned about Herman which endeared him to me even more? Not only does he like chocolate, he likes dark chocolate. And he knows chocolate! We were name-dropping all over the place, which lead to much eye-rolling from Simon. If we end up having this work done, I just might see a little bag of dark chocolate covered pretzels from Stever's in Herman's future. Yeah, yeah, this is the same guy I was dissing last week. Chocolate changes all.

So there's not much more to the painting story - we put the primer on in early afternoon then took a break. We read the paper, then I curled up under a quilt on the bed and took a nap. That, my friend, was just what the doctor ordered. One hour and 15 minutes, thank you very much.

We put the first coat of real paint on the walls. That's a color alright. This is not a color I would have chosen, it's just not a Stefani color - but I do love color. Lizz said this will be her first room ever that's not white. Can you imagine??

Stay tuned.

Dinner:   I roasted a turkey this afternoon - and am now headed into the kitchen to put some potatoes on to boil. And see what else I can find to add to this meal. I think my creative energy has been zapped so that may just entail opening a jar of applesauce.

Reading:    Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew aka gardening in neat little anal retentive squares. This is so Stefani.

Listening to in the car:  Music, which means a lot of button punching for me.
