Tuesday, April 13, 2004 Steve had a meeting run late tonight and won't be home from work until 6:30. I got home around 4:20 so Lizz and I painted another coat on her walls until it got too dark to see adequately. Part of the problem is we left her gigantic bunk beds and gigantic computer desk in the room because they are such bears to move and they actually block a lot of light. I could have set up lights in there and kept going but I figure Steve and Lizz can work on it tomorrow after work. I'll be working at Village Gifts until 5:00 so they'll be on their own. I'm sorry to drag out the suspense about the room. I'll tell you it's Mango Madness with one wall being Vintage Orange. Stay tuned for pictures in a few days.
The best thing about painting this room is that Steve and I are remembering how much fun it is to do projects together. Stefani: I think we should schedule painting our bedroom in June. May will be pretty busy with gardening. Steve: Okay. What color were you thinking of? Stefani: I thought maybe a sand color. Steve: That's kind of boring. Stefani: It was just an idea. I thought about putting up a pine tree and moose border, using those Wallies I have. Kind of an Adirondack look. But I'm not married to the idea. Steve: Yeah, why don't we look at some colors? This, from a man who I'm not sure has ever painted before, certainly not in a long time. I overheard him talking to Lizz about contrast and texture. I told him if I hear him using phrases like "color palette" and "living space", I'll know he's been watching HGTV without me! He says I have it on so much, he can't help but absorb some of it. I'm so pleased Steve seems to be enjoying this painting. And we have the perfect system - I do the detail work and he does the big work with the roller on the walls. I was telling him I seem to have always been the one to do the woodwork, even in my youth, helping my parents paint. (Mom? Dad? Am I remembering that correctly?) I like that kind of thing. Although I worked with the roller a little bit today and it just plain feels good!
Speaking of Village Gifts, the owners are out of town this week during our area's Spring Break, so some of us volunteered to keep the shop open in their absence. They were afraid we'd be calling them on their cell phone but we promised to be good boys and girls. So tomorrow afternoon is my volunteer shift, not counting towards my monthly 10 hour obligation.
My order came in from Blue Turtle Studio yesterday. The framed pieces are so adorable I want to keep them all for myself. They are 5" x 7" and what I like best about them is the way the elements are mounted over the edge of the mat in some cases. The clocks in front are on magnetic frames and are 3" x 4" I think, quite small. You'll recall that these are the shapes made from laser prints of original watercolors. The dragonfly necklace in front also came yesterday - the sample Robin Gardella sent to me as her new design. I'll scan that soon so you can see it better. The wings are paper and the tail is made of iridescent beads. The body is polymer clay and it's all coated with a protective finish.
This is the sample card I ordered from GardenCards. These are printed cards made from original pressed flowers. The cards are 5" x 7". I'm going to place an order tonight. I'll sell some as cards and I'll frame some. They fit a 5" x 7" frame of course, or an 8" x 10" with a mat so I may do a little of both. I'm going to use glass too so I think they may look like real flowers with the glass. Not that I'm trying to fool anyone, but I think they'll look nice and still be affordable. I also received a replacement piece for a frame I ordered not long ago - except the replacement is the wrong size again (this time too big) and the wrong shade of green. I've purchased from this company several times with no problem but they're having a tough time with this one piece. Pretty good mail day, wouldn't you say? It's weird, when we were painting Sunday I told Steve that sometime in the afternoon it magically turned into feeling like Monday to me. Monday, the whole day seemed like Sunday. Steve got the mail while I napped and told me just before I went to bed, "You saw your packages, didn't you?" I really wasn't expecting any of those things to arrive just yet. A good mail day indeed.
Dinner: Nachos - meaning fat-free tortilla chips covered with sautéed peppers, onions, chopped turkey from last night, some shredded cheese and salsa and/or hot sauce. Reading: Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew aka gardening in neat little anal retentive squares. This is so Stefani.
Listening to in the car: Music,
which means a lot of button punching for me.
