And Another Thing . . . Monday, January 3, 2005
Once in a while, a card turns out exactly as I envisioned it! Those are pussy willow buds - and they are cut out of suede paper so they are fuzzy! I made this with my new die cut machine. No, Dara, I didn't buy a Sizzix, I bought a QuicKutz. I know, I surprised me too! I went to the scrapbook store last week to check out which dies they had there for use when you buy their paper. I was mainly looking for a small box die in particular, which they didn't have. I mentioned to the woman helping me that I was considering buying a Sizzix and she gave me a bunch of reasons why she likes the QuicKutz more. Long story short, I bought one - as part of a "holiday package", which included the punch thing, a full (Eliza) alphabet (upper and lower) and punctuation and some other accessories. I used the gift certificate Steve's mom gave me for Christmas to buy that - and the store's new shopping club thing that entitles me to a 30% off all QuicKutz stuff and 15% off everything else. I paid the difference but it was still an excellent deal. From perusing their website, I have a list of about 25 more dies I want to buy (each is about $6, less my 30% discount) - but I bought the one used to make the pussy willow buds when I bought the machine. I'm going to make a hydrangea blossom with it too. Stay tuned!
My only concern is that I'm limited to the size die cuts I can make, but so far, so good. I mostly like little teeny pieces that I can make into other pieces - see above card. I'm very happy with it.
I forgot to tell you about the movies we've watched recently. Last night we watched For the Love of the Game. It was my 3rd time watching it and I cried just as much as when we saw it the first time, in the theater. I could have sobbed, but didn't - instead I sort of did that throat-tightening simmer thing through the whole thing. Damn good movie.. The night before, we watched Man on Fire, with Denzel Washington. Steve and I couldn't think of a single movie he's made that wasn't good. We both liked this as well.
Steve had today off as his holiday for New Year's Day and I took it off as vacation. I finally got my studio completely, 100%, absolutely cleaned up! You have no idea how great this feels! I had an 8:15 dentist appointment and ran some errands (shipped your orders, Stephanie & Mary!). I finished painting the outdoor closet doors. I had a great weekend.
Don't forget to check out the fabulous sale prices at Pine Tree Designs. I'm selling all Christmas and Hanukkah cards - and the 2005 calendars too at 35% off. And I'll throw in a few of the really nice sachets I have left too. They are wintery/Christmasy looking, smelling all cinnamony nice!
