Cross-Stitched Clothing

This is a Mill Hill Design that I stitched on a store-bought shirt for me.

This is the Buffalo Bills logo that I stitched on a sweatshirt for Steve for Christmas many years ago. It was one of those years where the more I do, the more I think I can do. I only needed about another hour's worth of work on this design, but I ran out of time. I wrapped the shirt and gave it to him anyway, shirt still in the embroidery hoop, needle in place. (That wasn't the first time I've had to take back a gift to finish - and may not be the last!)

This is my very favorite piece I ever stitched that adorable Simon is modeling for us. I made this for my nephew Nick, who was into horses at the time. It was then passed down to Simon, then Paul. Gretchen and I both had several people stop us when any of the kids were wearing it, asking if it was silk screened.

I'd always felt this way, I think, but it was in stitching this shirt that I declared this policy to myself. For me, the fun is in the stitching, then I let the project go. I knew all 3 boys would eventually outgrow this. When they were through wearing it, we gave to The Salvation Army. Maybe some people think I should have kept it, but my instinct told me to let it go and let someone else enjoy it. I'll never know what happened to it or if the next wearer knew how much love and work went into this - and how much 3 little boys enjoyed wearing it. But we were done enjoying it, time for it to move on.

Steve still rolls his eyes at the memory of me putting this bib on Reggi for a picture. I made this bib from a kit, for Kim's new baby boy, Sean.
